[irony] Little Gifts [/irony]

20th March 2008

What a crazy couple of weeks!  As many of you know, I have been accepted to the University of Idaho’s College of Law, class of 2011.  I have been spending a lot of time talking with family and friends, and processing what this opportunity will mean for my life, and the lives of others.  I am so looking forward to getting the tools and education to help others as an attorney.  And I thank all of you so much for your support, and well wishes through all of this.

Well a friend of mine took care of me, and scored tickets to the Obama/Clinton fiesta in Butte in April.  I was so busy with things yesterday that I didn’t find out this surprise until this morning.  Thank you!  The Firecracker and I will be attending.  I can’t decide if I will be able to get a laptop prior to the event, or if I will be scribbling frantically in my notebook as usual, then busting ass to get back to Helena to get it up on the net, probably the latter.

My family started a laptop savings account for me a couple of years ago, in recognition of my work on blogs, and I have been saving the money to buy one for law school.  It has been hard to put off the instant gratification of being able to blog live from an event, but one that I think has been worth it.  Fortunately, the U of I lets you have either a Mac or (uhhh) PC type laptop.  I am leaning towards a Mac.  Any suggestions?

Get a Macbook. Apple vs. PC is a no-brainer. :-)

Congrats on being accepted to law school!

MacBook or Macbook Pro, absolutely. There’s a lot to be said for an operating system that doesn’t hog 65% of your RAM all for itself.

And I’ll see you in Butte.

I am glad to see everyone is leaning in the same direction I am. My old PC is moving at the pace of a snail on an iceberg in February, and a friend gave me a iMac G3 desktop when they upgraded, and I have been mostly working on that on my coffee table lately. I thought a Mac would be a better laptop to compliment that iMac at home.

I forgot one thing last night, I got my snail mail letter of acceptance last night from the law school, and hand written on the bottom was a note from the Director of Admissions.

“P.S. Your experience and dedication to social justice make you just the kind of law student we want at Idaho” SMP

Yesterday was a GREAT day.

Well, let me burst the mac bubble. Don’t get me wrong, Apple makes great stuff, but you also have to consider price points. True, some PCs hog resources like crazy, but I just received the new Vostro I ordered; I love it, it runs smooth and it was about 1/2 or less the cost of a mac laptop; for me it is hard to justify that extra money when a correctly configured PC can run so well.

MAC…MAC…MAC It is hard to turn down a machine that can run OSX AND Windows ( :-( ) when you either want to or NEED to! I would not ever go back to a PC (of any variety) with all of the stuff that is built into an Apple. In fact, I’d spend the extra money to get the MacBook Pro it is worth the extra bucks.

I know that a lot of folks will argue the extra dollars but when I have the machine that can do it all it is WORTH the money, time and hassle of the PC and drivers and all that comes with it.

BTW - Congratulations on being accepted to a fine, fine higher learning university. You are to be commended.

Just my two cents worth by the way.
